Winston Churchill’s 80th birthday present –  a customised 1954 Land Rover series – has fetched more than twice its guide price at auction.

The specially constructed Land Rover Series I has an extra-large passenger seat, with the middle seat modified to form an arm rest and a specially fitted leather grab handle to ease the great man’s access into the car.

It has just 12,932 miles on the clock.

The sale  took place at Cheffins, Cambridge Vintage Sales in Sutton, England yesterday (20th October) .

You can read more about the auction – which featured a plethora of vintage engines – at the Cheffins site here
